Steampunk is what authors like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells envisioned the future to be – if the industrial revolution hadn’t happened and steam powered technology continued to progress. It’s a Victorian/Edwardian era in a retro futuristic world. Sterampunk isn’t all gears, goggles, and sepia… it’s a versatile aesthetically pleasing genre of Science Fiction. It is a hobby, an art form, a culture, and even a lifestyle.
We are Airship Horizons. Airship Horizons is from an alternate world called Aether Skies, which is set several generations into a post-apocalyptic world where Aether is mostly banned when it split our world into floating rocks. We’ll tell you more about our home world later (as we work on our role playing game content). We often say our bussiness is in “Pre-wreckage salvage” and we are occassionally known as the “Toy Ship” because of our Steampunk Mascots. Our crew has primary jobs in mundane society as Technical Support Specialists, but we incorperate a lot of Steampunk into our lives and artwork. Aside from toy making, we also mod nerf guns, draw cartoons, paint, make googles and jewelry. However, we have not yet setup convention booths or began selling. This will come eventually as we certainly like to dabble! We also manage the C.O.G.S. (Central Oklahoma Grassland Steamers) group on facebook which promotes the Steampunk culture in this area.
Our crew currently consists of only three official members: Cpt. Amelia “Coppertop” Reinier, First Mate Thomas Reinier, and Leverage Bennet Locke. We currently have several toy mascots on board, such as Mechanic Toki (a small plactic “dunny” bunny who is also a Toyvoyager), Pilot Hebert (pronounced A-Bear), Promoter Olivia Chocolate (a bear named after author O.M. Grey), and Andy (an owl purchased from Airship Isabella, whom hasn’t been given a role just yet and babysits luggage for us). You will see cameos of our cats Monster & Gremlin, although I don’t think they care much for this whole Steampunk thing that steals their humans away for whole weekends and inspires us to annoy them with little hats, nerf darts, and guns that make pew pew noises. Ahhh cats… what amusement they provide us.
We invite you to read our blog and hope you’ll enjoy our adventures!
